About the project

About the project
The SOCIAL POETRY PROJECT was born due to the current social and political climate in various countries, and from that grew the necessity to do something to inspire change. We believe in the power of writing as a tool of artistic activism, as an emotionally resonant tool that can challenge power relations, foster empathy, and bring about social change.
We invite you to share your experiences
and use aesthetic approaches to provide
a critical perspective of the world as it is
and imagine the world as it could be
Your standpoint and your perspective matter, and that's why we invite you to use this platform to share your writing with us, be it in the form of a poem, of a drabble, or just spilled ink of thoughts and emotions. We invite you to join us in this project because your voice can be the one that reminds another person they're not alone. Your voice can be the one that opens the eyes of another person to a situation they hadn't seen before. Your voice can be the one that moves someone more privileged to amplify the voices of those that feel voiceless. Your voice can be the one that ripples through so many others to foster solidarity and understanding. That's how change starts.
Who we are
ANDREA MAGAÑA VERGARA

Hi, I'm Andrea! I'm a proud Latina and feminist, born and raised in Mexico. I'm a trilingual movie and book nerd who was lucky enough to have been raised in a multicultural environment with exposure to different ways of thinking and living that went far beyond just my hometown. Art forms like literature and performing arts have played a key role in my life and I deeply believe in their power to inspire and empower, and to let us all take a peek beyond our own standpoint. I want to help spread empathy and solidarity, and hopefully, this project will help do just that.

RHIANNA JORDAN TURNER

Hi, I’m Rhianna Jordan Turner, a POC queer writer, poet, avid movie watcher, and all around sarcastic weirdo. My writing has always surrounded around activism, whether it be for mental health, Black rights, feminism, animal rights, and more. I have always felt a passion in me to fight for what I believe is right: equality, kindness, generosity, peace. I want my writing to evoke conversation. I want to get more and more unheard voices out into the world, and for us to hear more than one perspective on life. There are many. We just have yet to hear from them.
